Birmingham Coffee Shop Guide
Whether you’re working on assignments, catching up with a friend, grabbing a midday pick-me-up, Birmingham has lots of cafe and coffee shop options. Each of these coffee shops have standout features differentiating them from each other, which makes it easy to find the perfect coffee spot for you.
As someone from Birmingham who loves coffee, tea, and spending time in coffee shops, I have been to many of the city’s coffee shops and want to highlight some standouts in this Guide to Birmingham Coffee Shops.
If you want to know the hours, location, atmosphere, recommendations, and more details about Birmingham coffee shops, check out my run-down of the Birmingham coffee scene below!
Cala Coffee
As California natives and current Alabama residents, the founders took inspiration from both areas to start Cala Coffee, a two-location coffee business that offers a range of coffee blends, local food favorites, and a lively yet low-key atmosphere that totally gives west coast vibes.

Bitty & Beau's Coffee
A newer coffee stop to Birmingham is Bitty & Beau's Coffee, a national coffee franchise that employees over 400 individuals with disabilities. As a big fan of the Bitty & Beau's in Auburn, I was very excited about the Birmingham opening. While I've only been to the Homewood location once, I anticipate it becoming a regular coffee spot for me.
Prevail Union
Prevail Coffee Roasters crafts their coffee with a focus on integrity and community. They have cafes in Montgomery, Atlanta, and, most recently, Birmingham. Located on the first floor of the Shipt Building, Prevail Union BHM is a central spot for coffee, BlueRoot Co. meals, and Ladybird Taco tacos.

Caveat Coffee
For heads-down work time, Caveat has the optimal atmosphere which is quiet and possesses few distractions. Since I prefer to work with background noise, I usually just get my drink to-go. While parking may be limited, they have a drive-thru, so you don’t even have to leave the car!

June Coffee
Enjoying a pretty day while getting work done is easy to do at June. Not only does June have a bright indoor seating area with lots of natural light, but it also has a courtyard for outdoor seating. Plus, they serve great-tasting coffee, with classic options for the coffee purists and fun flavor combinations for the more adventurous individuals.

Church Street Coffee and Books
As the name suggests, Church Street is a coffee shop and bookstore in one. It is a great meeting spot or workplace with a second story designed as a quiet space. However, I’d argue Church Street is most famous for its breakup cookie, which is a must-try if you visit this coffee stop.
