College Dorm Essentials

As I am approaching my senior year of college, I have been reflecting on my entire college experience which includes two years of dorm living. Although I’ve been out of the dorms for some time now, I still remember my dorm room essentials. Since college move-in for the fall semester will be here in no time, I wanted to recommend my dorm must-haves to add to your packing list.

Power Strip

Surge Protector Power Strip

Your phone, computer, lights, microwave, hair tools, and so many other items all rely on power. As a result, you can never have enough outlets in your dorm, making this power strip a must.

Brita Water Filter Pitcher

Water Filter Pitcher

If you want to be sure your drinking water is clean (without constantly buying bottled water or tracking down water fountains), a purified water filter pitcher is a must.

Vornado Flippi Mini Fan

Mini Fan

Since most dorms have unpredictable air conditioning systems (and some dorms don’t even have one), a small fan is key to staying cool and comfortable in the dorms.

Handheld Steamer

Handheld Steamer

Living out of a tiny dorm closet means you often have to store your clothes in less than ideal ways that lead to wrinkles. A handheld steamer provides a quick and easy way to revive your crinkled clothes.

Earbuds

Earbuds, specifically ones with a noise cancellation feature, are the perfect way to eliminate any distracting noises that dorm life often presents. I use and recommend Apple’s AirPods as they are a popular choice but there are plenty of options on the market.

Mini Coffee Maker

With late nights and early classes, I rely heavily on my coffee maker. I am a big fan of Keurig because they make brewing coffee as simple and speedy as possible. Due to its small size, their K-Mini Single Serve suits dorm life perfectly.

Personal Blender

I love smoothies because they’re so versatile- depending on your choice of ingredients, your smoothie can serve as a breakfast, lunch, snack, or whatever else you want! While small in size, Ninja’s Nutri Pro Compact Personal Blender packs a big punch that makes the smoothest drinks in hardly any time.

Slippers

Dorm floors are not always the cleanest, so it is nice to have slide-on shoes readily available. Slippers are my choice because who doesn’t love a comfy pair of slippers. Specifically, I like these slippers from Donpapa because they are comfortable, practical, and hold up well while not breaking the bank.

Command Strips

Since most dorms don’t allow nails, Command Hooks are your key to hanging anything on dorm walls. With these hooks, you can add personalized touches to your dorm through pictures, posters, and string lights, making the space feel like home.

Storage Bins

Fabric Storage Bins

I thrive off organization, so I appreciate when everything has a designated place, especially if the place is hidden from plain site. Dorm life makes this difficult but not impossible to achieve. Through bins covered in fabric, like these ones from Target, your stuff can have designated homes that are hidden from plain site.
